Sampling for an Addis count (erythrocytes and leukocytes per minute)

3.1.1 Objective:

This test is used to measure the number of erythrocytes and leukocytes that are eliminated in the urine. The collection includes all the urine excreted over 3 hours (2 hours in children).

3.1.2 Sampling recommendation:

– Label the vial with your first and last names if this was not done by the laboratory.

– Empty the bladder in the toilet.

– Drink a large glass of water.

– Record the time and date on the vial provided.

– Remain resting for 3 hours (as close as possible).

– Then collect all the urine in the vial over 3 hours.

– Record the time of the end of the collection.

– Transport the vial to the laboratory as soon as possible (about 1 hour).
