Urgent samples are given priority as soon as the prescribing physician or the patient refers to it (written on the prescription or orally).
In addition to being specified on the patient’s file, the urgent status should be indicated on the sample (marking on the tube and the sample sheet with a green sticker).
The degree of urgency will be taken into account at each step of the procedure, from the analysis to the transmission of the results (reported by telephone, fax, e-mail, etc.).
Certain tests are systematically considered to be urgent:
– Beta human chorionic gonadotropin (beta hCG) (ectopic pregnancy)
– Troponin and other cardiac markers
– Estradiol for follow-up of stimulation for medically assisted reproduction
– Cerobrospinal fluid for biochemistry and microbiology.
