Cerebrospinal fluid CSF
This is a medical procedure. The sample is taken by the physician and is sent to the laboratory with the essential clinical information:
– Patient’s name
– Date of birth
– Date and time of the sampling
– Clinical diagnosis
– Or symptoms for which the sample was taken
– Possible use of antibiotic therapy (specify the type of antibiotic therapy used).
Once the CSF is obtained, correctly label the tube before sending it to the laboratory.
NB: CSF sampling is an urgent technique, therefore have it transferred to the laboratory as soon as possible or keep it at 37° C while waiting for the transport.
